To Civitavecchia From Fiumicino Airport:

If your flight arrives early in the morning before 9:0 AM, you too can make the most of your pre cruise time in Italy to enjoy the Countryside.  Just about 1 hour from Fiumicino Airport on the highway, the Roman countryside is an ideal pre cruise tour as you will be traveling in the direction of Civitavecchia making the most of your limited time.

Lake Bracciano is an ancient volcanic crater that is now of the most pristine lakes in Italy.  Favored by Italians seeking to escape the chaotic city life of Rome, Lake Bracciano is one of the top countryside destinations for Italians.

BRACCIANO CASTLE

The 15th century imposing Renaissance castle is commonly known as Bracciano Castle (named after the town of Bracciano where it’s located). Its official name is Odescalchi-Orsini Castle, and for centuries it is still owned by the same Odeschalchi family and it’s one of the best preserved castles in Italy.

You will have the wonderful opportunity to visit Bracciano Castle and explore elegant rooms still with their original Renaissance era furnishings, wall paintings, frescoes, tapestries, friezes, weaponry, and more, turning it into an actual museum.

Many of Italy’s kings, queens, lords, ladies, knights and Popes and some of the most powerful families (think the Borgias!)  have once lived and slept here.

Depending on when you visit Bracciano Castle, you might feel as though you have the castle to yourself as you explore the grounds and the “Court of Honor” with arches, ramparts and pathways.

Located on the southern shore of Lake Bracciano, it offers visitors a spectacular panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding countryside.

CERI

Ceri is a tiny medieval fortified hamlet that seems to rise of out of the tufa cliff upon which it was built.  

Frozen in history, this early 13th century village has retained his original look over the many centuries giving the visitors the feeling you’ve just traveled back in time 800 years!

The village can be reached by a narrow street wide enough for just 1 vehicle to pass at a time. Therefore the stoplight directs vehicles entering, and then vehicles exiting.

SANCTUARY OF MARY

The Sanctuary of Mary was built on top of an ancient Etruscan and Roman site  dedicated to pagan goddess Vesta.

.

 

Stunningly beautiful 12 century frescoes depicting scenes from the Old Testament adorn the walls inside the church.

There is a small chapel that is usually overlooked by those not in the known.  The walls of this tiny chapel “Cappella delle Grazie Ricevute” are adorned with hearts and plaques of gratitude.

For decades Italians who have come to pray to Mary to intercede and answer their prayers. Many have even included a small photo of their loved ones to be prayed for.

When their prayers were answered, they dedicated a plaque of gratitude to Mary, and hung it on the walls.

LUNCH

Ceri is well renowned in the region for its delicious homemade cuisine served at the local family owned restaurants.

Weekends are often crowded with Italians coming to Ceri to enjoy a nice relaxing lunch.  Many of our clients have requested return trips to Ceri from Rome or on the way to Civitavecchia just to have lunch here again!
